With the dancers of Boston Ballet

ABOUT THE SHOW

Boston Ballet is back at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées as part of TranscenDanses, with three iconic pieces by Jorma Elo, William Forsythe and Jiří Kylián.

After making a big impression when they came to Paris in 2019, the prestigious Boston Ballet will return to the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in April 2024. For almost 60 years now, the Boston Ballet has been combining the great works of the ‘classical’ repertoire with the great names of contemporary dance. This shows the high technical level of this company and its dancers, who are able to master such a demanding repertoire. Under the direction of Finnish dancer Mikko Nissinen since 2002, the American company continues to pursue this ambitious artistic direction, rising to the upper echelons of the great international companies. For its 2nd visit to Paris, The Boston Ballet will offer a program that reflects its eclectic repertoire and will place music at the heart of the evening. On the menu: Bach Cello Suites, a classic and intimate piece based on Bach’s famous cello suites, created for the company in 2015 by Jorma Elo (Resident Choreographer). Next is William Forsythe’s Blake Works III , created for Boston Ballet in 2022. The result of the collaboration between the American choreographer and James Blake (a rising star of British electronic music), Blake Works III is the 3rd work in the Blake Works series and the stage extension of his mini-film ‘The Barre Project’, created during the lockdown. William Forsythe explores the codes of academic dance with infectious joy. He reinvents the fundamentals of movement to find new choreographic expressions. The programme will conclude with Jiří Kylián’s mythical Bella Figura: a suite of duets, trios and quartets for nine dancers, based on the baroque music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Traveling through time, oscillating between dream and reality, the visible and the invisible, Bella Figura explores the aesthetic ambiguity of theatrical and musical representation.
