ABOUT THE SHOW
A leading personality on the French choreographic scene, Angelin Preljocaj has been developing a distinctive choreographic language for over thirty years, combining technical rigor and emotional expressivity. With a keen sense of narrative, he relentlessly explores the great figures of classical dance in the perspective of the contemporary world. Each creation disrupts landmarks, blends poetry and tension, and reinvents the link between past and present. From Romeo and Juliet to Snow White, he relishes the opportunity to confront myths with today’s realities. With Swan Lake, he pursues his exploration of the repertoire, revisiting one of the most emblematic masterpieces in the history of dance. Combining Tchaikovsky’s music with 79D’s contemporary electro-arrangements, he tackles this monument to classical ballet.
Faithful to the original piece, Angelin Preljocaj transposes Odette’s story into the present day, at the heart of societal issues, integrating environmental and social concerns.
On the shores of a lake, Rothbart wants to exploit a fossil fuel deposit. A young woman, Odette, interferes with his plans. He turns her into a cygn. Elsewhere, at a party, Siegfried confronts his father, who wants to join forces with Rothbart to build a factory on the shores of Swan Lake.
Performed by a troupe with honed technique, Swan Lake impresses as much with the virtuosity of its choral dances as with the delicacy of its Pas de deux. The expert precision, speed of execution and scenic complexity of the tableaux lead the audience into a melancholy dream between dramatic power and formal elegance. This vibrant, emotional and spectacular version offers a show affordable to all, without ever compromising on artistic excellence. An outstanding performance blending the high standards of classical ballet with the freedom of contemporary creation, led by the dancers of Ballet Preljocaj.
