ABOUT THE SHOW

Evgeny Kissin, virtuoso pianist, returns for a recital at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées with an exceptional romantic program.

Kissin has now reached a unique level of interpretation, mastering the technical difficulties like no other to reveal the drama, nobility and poetry of his performances. Capable of all prowess, he also knows how to handle emotion to give full range to his expression. The virtuoso and the Parisian public have developed a beautiful musical relationship that blossoms season after season. A regular guest at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, where he triumphs year after year, the ” sacred monster of the piano ” returns in 2026 for a new recital focused on the Romantic repertoire, a cornerstone of his career.

To open the evening, Kissin has chosen Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 10 No. 3, a work of expansive form and emotional depth. Inspired by traditional Polish dances, Chopin’s Mazurkas – acclaimed for their melodic subtlety and rhythmic complexity – highlight the composer’s talent for blending tradition and innovation into a deeply personal musical language. Schumann’s Kreisleriana, one of his most profound and complex works, is based on the fictional character Johannes Kreisler and explores extremes of agitation and lyricism that reflect the composer’s inner dualities. Finally, Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 – one of his most famous – concludes the programme with dazzling virtuosity, folkloric flair and irresistible rhythmic drive. A journey through the full richness of the Romantic repertoire, carried by unparalleled pianistic brilliance.
