ABOUT THE SHOW

Over the last 55 years, Boston Ballet has included the great “classics” in its repertoire (Marius Petipa, Rudolf Noureev, Frederick Ashton, Georges Balanchine, John Cranko…)and some of the great names in contemporary dance (William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Wayne McGregor, Mark Morris, Christopher Wheeldon ou Jorma Elo, actuellement en résidence). This speaks to the high level of technical skill within this company to meet such demanding repertoire requirements.
Composed of 66 dancers from 16 different countries, the Boston Ballet has been under the artistic direction of Finnish dancer Mikko Nissinen since 2002. His career spans both Europe and the San Francisco Ballet. Under his leadership, the company continues its ambitious artistic trajectory, highlighted this season by an exceptional partnership with William Forsythe, who joined as associate choreographer.
For this occasion, the American master will create, in 2019, a new piece specially composed for the Boston company This unprecedented work promises to be a major event, as Forsythe had not created a ballet for a U.S. company since 1992, and his last creation dates back to 2011!
In addition to this new creation, the American company will bring two key works from the contemporary repertoire: Wings of Wax by Jiří Kylián, a mythological and cult piece of great expressivity and captivating beauty, and the energetic and inventive suite of solos, duets, and trios Pas/Parts 2018 by William Forsythe, in a reworked version tailored specifically for the Boston Ballet, to be presented in its French premiere.
